As a NovaLash certified eyelash extension technician, I get a ton of questions about eyelash extensions. Here are some answers to FAQs about eyelash extensions to find out if they are right for you.
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are fibers — natural or synthetic — which will enhance the length and volume of your natural lashes. DIY application can last for one day, while professional application can last up to up to four weeks.
What does the end result look like?
Lash extensions can look as natural or as dramatic as you choose. Talk to your lash technician about your desired result and she can advise on the best options for you.
How will it benefit the way my eyes look?
Eyelash extensions really open up your eyes, making them look larger and wider. With fuller lashes, you can rock the natural beauty look and use less makeup.
What are the different types of lashes I can choose from?
There are many different widths and lengths available that will provide a more natural or dramatic look, depending on your desired result. A good lash technician will apply at least three different lengths to achieve a more balanced look that replicates natural lashes.
What is NovaLash? What makes them different?
NovaLash’s award-winning, long-lasting, pharmaceutical-grade adhesives have earned its reputation as the healthiest professional lash extension system. They don’t damage natural lashes and hold two times longer than other brands. They’re also waterproof, oil proof and flexible.
What are appointments like? Does the procedure hurt?
Lash extensions don’t hurt a bit! New clients should expect to lie down and keep their eyes closed for about two hours. A pad will be applied just under the eye and then your eyes MUST be closed the entire time. Don’t worry, the appointment takes place on a massage table — most people just fall asleep, so think of it as scheduled naptime. Touch-up appointments are pretty much the same, but take slightly less time — plan for about an hour.
Can I use mascara on my extensions?
Yes, but it’s not recommended. Curling is also not recommended.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
Touch ups take less time to apply the more often you get them done, but they’re not really required until after 3 to 4 weeks, depending on how well you take care of them.
Are eyelash extensions safe?
Yes, they are completely safe, as long as you choose a certified technician. Be sure to let your eyelash specialist know if you are allergic to latex or have any eye allergies or sensitivities. NovaLash glue is also approved for use during pregnancy.
Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
Natural shedding will occur but those particular lashes are the ones that would have fallen out naturally anyway. Keep in mind that lash technicians can add eyelash extensions to areas where your eyelashes already exist. If your lashes are too fine and thin, they will break off. A lash technician will let you know beforehand if your natural lashes can’t support the extensions.
